figur (in Danish diagram/figures/motive) is composer and musician Mikkel Borrisholt Grevsen’s first project as a solo instrumentalist. In addition to being a composer, Mikkel Borrisholt Grevsen is also a trumpeter and hornist and presents with figur a naturalistic universe with the compositional remedies taken from classical music and instrumentations taken from electronical music. The music is a variety of classical music with references to march music, marriachi orchestras, sci-fi and Eastern European folklore. The forthcoming album “Himlen, min egen” consists of 14 compositions that are connected through metamorphosing passages and reminds of modern compositional music, when musical figures and themes are reused, commented and processed throughout the album. It’s not quite classical and almost not jazz; it’s neo-classical, with improvisations and electronic elements. The album defines its own genre in an uncompromising and intense atmosphere. The music ranges from a metaphysical, cinematic soundscape to an everyday realistic universe. All melody and chords come from either trumpet or mellophone (a kind of alto horn used in the American marching bands). Grevsen had an ambition to show the versatility of brass music. With the work “Himlen, min egen” he shows his take on how modern horn music could sound in 2022. In addition to these two instruments, Anders Bach (Sleep Party People, Erna, M?) feature some of the tracks on drums and percussion.
